A Remote Speech for Batangas University in the Philippines

I had an opportunity to do a short speech with Batangas University in the Phillippines. It’s just something to inspire the highschoolers who will be innovating food this weekend. Don’t worry, I didn’t travel there, I just recorded a speech to send to them. I was honored to do it.

Here’s the audio file:

And here’s the transcript:

Hello, Batangas State University thank you to the Association of Food Engineering Students for inviting me to give an audio speech at this year’s Food Engineering Week

I’m Adam Yee, I’m a Food Engineer at the Better Meat Company and I also have a podcast called My Food Job Rocks. I’m based in California, all the way in the United States.

In the Better Meat Company, I create meat out of plants and My Food Job Rocks is a podcast, where we interview people in the food industry to show the limitless possibilities in a career in food.

I’m honored to talk with you, today on why what you do, or what you decide to do is important.

Many of you have probably never heard of Food Engineering. In fact, it wasn’t until I enrolled in college, that I knew about it. But as I learned more and more about it, I found out it’s the best job in the world.

As a Food Engineer, you play a direct role in nourishing and enriching the lives of others. You get to have a chance to feed many people and make sure our food supply is safe.

I pick out 5 pieces of content from the latest food industry news to the greatest new products and leave my snarky comments every week.

Not only that, but we are at a time in society where what you do can really make an impact on how we feed the world. We are faced with a tough problem. With the population expected to grow to almost 10 billion in 2050, we need to find ways to feed all of these people.

Our current practices, from supply chain to meat manufacturing, to energy is unsustainable and there is now innovation all over the world to help you solve this problem. Going into this field allows you to tackle the big problems that might possibly save the world.

Right now, scientists all over the world are finding ways to make meat from plants, using digital technology to make our food safe and secure, building sustainable systems to make sure we are not damaging the planet as we produce more food.

And what’s better is that they are people, just like you or me, who are creating products that people want to buy, that are healthier for not just you, but for the planet.

We need more bright, young, talented minds like you to help us work on these problems. Bit by bit, we can do it, and this weekend is a start for creating something truly innovative.

Perhaps you can take that innovation you did this weekend, and grow it bigger and bigger so one day, you can be part of the solution.

Today, you will get a taste of what it’s like to be a Food Engineer. And just like your fondest memory at the dinner table, I hope you not only savory this weekend, but also keep coming back for more.

And I hope this allows you to really think about having a career in the food industry. We are at a point, where things are changing for the better and there is a ton of innovation to be done and to be explored. Joining the food industry is a rewarding profession, and is much needed in the world today.

So have fun this weekend, think differently, with in mind that what you create can change the world for the better. And remember, what you do today, can potentially make a world a better place.
